Thursday Reads: Encore by Megan Mulry

ThursdayHope and longing… those two themes, along with survival, resound throughout this lovely tale. Once I started, I couldn’t stop. In fact, this author’s books tend to keep me up far too late into the night. As this one did, I needed to know what would happen after reading the first page.

Ellie is a woman I’d like to be, the wise optimist who’s seen plenty of life and is trying to regain a part of her that’s been missing. Enter Luke, who’s handsome, gorgeous, and ever so patient. Luke also has a past full of some baggage. That’s what makes this story so marvelous, both characters have baggage they are trying to shed.

encore-meganmulry-1600x2400This love story is like a slow roast, gradually cooking and absorbing emotion until I was bursting at the seams. For every rushed moment there’s an equal temper. Mulry woos with her words- descriptions of food, art, and emotion fold and blend creating a world I want to dive into.

I pray this author will continue to write contemporary in the future. Think of Mulry as the contemporary version of Laura Kinsale. It’s not a simple story, but a journey and I’ll be jumping on the Ellie and Luke boat again! This one may just be a once-a-year read.

P.S. I highly recommend her contemporary series and her polyamorous erotic historical series. :)
